What: Victory Park Refresh- FREE Popsicle Thursday

Why: While Nas’ upcoming album might almost be done, the Queens rapper has plotted a North American takeover with a forthcoming tour alongside collaborator and close friend Lauryn Hill. Comedian Hannibal Buress and reggae star Chronixx will also appear on select tour stops. The two previously collaborated on the Illmatic MC’s 1996 hit “If I Ruled The World.”

What: Goodguys 25th Lone Star Nationals

Why: The automotive festival features over 2,500 rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trick trucks through 1972 vintage. In addition to the car show: Manufacturer and vendor exhibits, Swap meet and Auto Trader Classics cars-for-sale area, Goodguys Autocross ( test vehicle agility and performance) Goodgals gallery (arts & crafts), Cruise the track in your vehicle, Team Texas NASCAR Stock Car Rides (additional fee), K&N Filters All American Sunday, Kids’ activities including Revell Model Car Make ‘n’ Take, PPG coloring contest, clowns.

What: State Fair of Texas Opening Weekend

Why: The theme for 2017 is “Celebrating Texans,” a nod to the fair’s “past, present and future neighbors,” and special activities will include concerts on the Main Stage and college football games. Daily activities include the Starlight Parade at 7 p.m. and the Illumination Sensation lights and fireworks show at 8 p.m.

What: State Fair of Texas Opening Day Parade

Where: Downtown Dallas

Why: Lunchtime parade through Downtown Dallas celebrates the opening of the State Fair of Texas. The festive procession includes colorful floats, drill teams, bands and plenty more to get you in the fair going spirit.

What: Western Days Festival

Why: The two-day event includes 3 stages for live music and performances, featuring music headliners Turnpike Troubadours and Randy Rogers Band, plus all types of fun activities for the whole family. Highlights include the World Tamale Eating Championship presented by Market Street, Kid Kountry Playground presented by Castle Hills, a mechanical bull, a working blacksmith, Huffines Auto Dealerships Lewisville Cattle Drive Parade, Castle Hills Culinary Corner, an art exhibit and much more.

What: Cutting Edge Haunted House

Why: Located in an abandoned meatpacking plant, Cutting Edge has consistently been ranked one of the largest haunted houses in the country, as well as one of the most terrifying. The unnervingly realistic setup combines live actors with lifelike mannequins and special effects.

Why: Oktoberfest at Rahr & Sons Brewing in Fort Worth starts with a 5K run/walk at 9 a.m., including a beer belly division, followed by an Oktoberfest after party with stein hoisting, costume contest, biergarten with Rahr craft beer, live German polka, Bavarian treats, live entertainment, plus zany contests and games.

What: 2nd Annual BBQ Bash and Brew Bash
When: Sat. Sept 30th @ 10:00AM – 8:00PM
Where: Ellis County Expo Center

Why: Family fun event includes a BBQ and Chili Cook-off, car show, local bands, kids zone, auction, raffles and door prizes. Proceeds benefit Bridges Training Foundation, which provides occupational and educational services to children and adults with developmental disabilities.

What: Murphy Maize Days
When: Sat. Sept 30th @ 10:00AM – 8:30PM
Where: Murphy Central Park

Why: 9th Annual Murphy Maize Days is a one day free fall festival open to all. This festival includes a kid zone, preschool area, market vendors, food vendors, main stage, pet area, punkin chunkin, car show, touch-a-truck and fireworks. On the Main Stage: Cody Canada and the Departed and opener Bri Bagwell. 6:30-8 p.m. A large kid zone features bounce houses, fun activities, games, preschool tent, and much more.  An A-Maize-Ing fireworks finale will complete the night..

What: Lake Highlands Oktoberfest

Why: This family-friendly Oktoberfest brings thousands of people across Dallas-Fort Worth together for the good food, good beer and good times. Come out and enjoy restaurant row, the Party Bar, the Kid Zone and jams from Rhymin N Stealin, Petty Theft, Pearl Gem: The Ultimate Pearl Jam Tribute and Parker Twomey. The Lake Highlands Oktoberfest is produced by the volunteers of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands. All proceeds benefit the Lake Highlands areas directly.

What: Chalk Art Festival

Why: Watch as the streets in Fort Worth’s West 7th entertainment district are transformed into works of art at the 3rd annual Chalk Art Festival. Three commissioned street painting artists will spend hours creating colorful installations. There will also be an amateur street painting contest open to anyone who would like to create chalk art on-site during the event. Kids can also get creative in the Kids Chalk Art area. Chalk Art is free to attend. Food and beverages from 7th St. merchants will be available to purchase.

What: World Arirang Korean Fall Festival

Why: 2017 World Arirang Korean Fall Festival featuring special Korean Traditional performances, costume exhibition, games, musical instruments exhibition and some of the most delicious Korean cuisine.
