What: Ft. Worth Oktoberfest

Why: Oktoberfest returns for an authentic German celebration with just the right amount of Texas thrown in to make it our own. The festival kicks off with Thursday’s ceremonial “Tapping of the Kegs” and the fun continues through Saturday with dachshund races, German style competitions, the YP Oktoberfest Olympics, traditional German vendors, the Oktoberfest Run und Ride and more. New for 2017: Oktoberfest Midway.

What: Seussical the Musical
When: Thurs. Sept. 21st – Sun. Sept. 24th @ 7:30PM & 2:30PM
Where: The Firehouse Theatre

Why: Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Through ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in Horton. Friendship, loyalty, family and community ultimately emerge triumphant.

What: Uptown Movie in the Park Series

Why: Join Uptown Dallas, Inc. every Thursday night in September for movies at Griggs Park. Movie nights will feature: 9/21 – Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2  9/28 – Beauty and the Beast (2017 live version)  Showtime at 8 p.m. and admission is free. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair or blanket; the popcorn is provided.

What: Frame 4 Frame Festival
When: Thurs. Sept. 21st – Sun. Sept. 24th @ 9PM (Thurs), 6:30PM (Fri), 1PM (Sat) and 4PM (Sun)

Why: The Frame4Frame Film Festival celebrates the independent film industry by bringing some of the finest films from around the world to Arlington. The festival also spotlights the work of talented local filmmakers and the passionate stories they tell through the unique medium of film. Frame4Frame will screen a diverse collection of films from both studios and independent filmmakers, highlight local and national artists, as well as feature national musical artists and emerging artists. There will be networking events for film enthusiasts, musicians and artists. Live music and art exhibits will be featured at venues around UT Arlington/Arlington.

What: Greek Food Festival of Dallas
When: Fri. Sept. 21st – Sun. Sept. 24th @ 12:00PM (Fri & Sun) and 10:00AM (Sat)

Why: Get immersed in Greek culture and fun at the 61st edition of the Greek Food Festival of Dallas. Sample delicious food handmade by Trinity Greek Orthodox Church’s own cooks, from recipes passed down through the generations – gyros, lamb sliders, spanakopita, baklava and so much more. Visit the Taverna for Greek wine and beer. Stop in the Kaffenio under the tent for coffee and pastries. There will be traditional folk dancing and music, a food shop, cooking demos, backgammon tent, children’s activities, and a marketplace with art.

What: 10th Annual Downtown McKinney Oktoberfest

Why: Step into your lederhosen and refresh your schuhplattler dance moves for McKinney’s 10-year Oktoberfest celebration in Downtown McKinney. This three-day event is a family favorite, offering authentic German food and drinks, entertainment, children’s activities and fun. Patrons will feel like they are right in the middle of Munich and enjoy authentic German fare like bier, brats, strudel, pretzels and live music.

What: Plano Balloon Festival

Why: See colorful hot air balloons take to the sky. Festival. It’s a three-day fest with music, food, fireworks, kids activities, vendors, and incredible hot-air balloons.

What: StyleCon Dallas

Why: Flea Style Summit is a one-day conference that aims to inspire and empower attendees to take their brands and life goals to the next level through informative panels and mentorship sessions while also enjoying meals, cocktails and some serious fun such as an artisan candy bar, live hand-lettering, book signing, shopping, free swag and more. Panelists include Glitter Guide founder Taylor Sterling, One Kings Lane creative director Jon Tutolo, and Magnolia lead photo stylist Hilary Rose Walker.

Why: Klyde Warren Park presents Movies in the Park featuring Trolls. After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the curmudgeonly Branch (Justin Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue their friends. Blankets, lawn chairs, picnic baskets and coolers are welcome. Beer, wine and concessions are available for purchase at Relish. No glass containers or outside alcoholic beverages.

Why: The Westin Galleria Dallas will present its inaugural Sweat Showcase, featuring Simone De La Rue of Body by Simone.
