What: Commemorative Air Force presents “Rise Above: Red Tail”

Why: The Commemorative Air Force will bring its “Rise Above: Red Tail” Traveling Exhibit back to Dallas for a free Black History Month program. The CAF is partnering with area schools, churches and civic groups to offer a free field trip which provides students with an opportunity to learn about the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first African-American Military Pilots, and how the Airmen overcame segregation and adversity to become some of America’s best pilots in World War II. The exhibit features a unique large-format curved screen theater which allows students to experience a 30-minute Rise Above film in an interactive setting. The film covers the topic of civil rights and the uphill struggle for equality as it pertains to this important piece of history. It also gives viewers an exciting feeling of flying in a rebuilt P-51 Mustang.

Why: Popular young adult writer Rachel Caine headlines the 16th ConDFW Conference, a literary science-fiction and fantasy convention. Caine leads the way for a host of national and local authors and artists from the literary world of science fiction and fantasy. Exhibitors will fill the hall with books, both new and rare, collectibles, comics, original art, toys, games, and more. Authors will take part in a multitude of panel talks and programming events throughout the weekend. Notable events include Q&A and signings, charity book swap, and a large table-top gaming area. First is a 2 hour writer’s workshop focused on taking a novel from idea to the hands of readers. Second, is an exciting one-on-one tutorial on how to pitch your novel.

The show, presented as a series of vignettes, is a musical revue about all of love’s greatest challenges: dating, sex, marriage, and family life.
