Why: Lunafest, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by Zonta Club of Dallas. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity, and breaking barriers. Why: Texas frontier life is the inspiration for this free, two-day heritage event in Fort Worth’s Stockyards National Historic District. Frontier Forts Days brings together authentic wagons, flags, music, uniforms and military gear from Texas landmarks. Infantry, artillery and cavalry demonstrations and military parades will fill the event schedule on Friday and Saturday. Re-enactors will also be on hand to discuss frontier life.

The celebration begins with a parade that steps off at 10 a.m. from the Texas Woman’s University parking lot on the corner of Locust and Oakland streets, then proceeds down Elm Street to Courthouse Square, around Quakertown Park, and ends at the Civic Center parking lot. During the day, a variety of entertainment ranging from bands to the Little Miss Cinco de Mayo pageant will take place on two stages in the park. A children’s arts and crafts area will give kids the chance to make and keep traditional Mexican crafts, and activities for kids include piñata games for kids ages 1-6. Vendors will offer a variety of foods, drinks, jewelry, crafts and other items.

The 7th Annual Homegrown Festival will fill vibrant downtown Dallas with music and art at Main Street Garden Park. Hosted by Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the tournament has been a premier PGA Tour event for over 45 years. The AT&T Byron Nelson has raised more than $143 million since its inception in 1968, making it the most financially successful charity event on the PGA Tour. All proceeds benefit Momentous Institute, the nonprofit operated by the Salesmanship Club for over 95 years. The organization serves 6,000 kids and family members directly each year through mental health and education programs.
