What: LUNAFEST: Dallas

Why: Lunafest, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by Zonta Club of Dallas. This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through six short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity, and breaking barriers. Tickets include wine and cheese reception prior to film. All proceeds from Lunafest will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Zonta Club of Dallas..

What: The Intergalactic Nemesis
When: Thursday, May 12th – Sunday, May 14th @ 8:00PM and 2:00PM (Sat)
Where: Dallas City Performance Hall

Why: Multimedia sci-fi comedy romance extravaganza, created by Austin artist Jason Neulander, features three actors, one artist, a keyboardist and more than 1,000 hand-drawn comic book images. Part of Off Broadway on Flora, presented by AT&T Performing Arts Center.

What: Frontier Forts Days
When: Friday, May 13th – Saturday, May 14th @ 10:00AM – 5:00PM
Where: Stockyards Station
     130 E. Exchange Ave., Ft. Worth, TX 76164
Why: Texas frontier life is the inspiration for this free, two-day heritage event in Fort Worth’s Stockyards National Historic District. Frontier Forts Days brings together authentic wagons, flags, music, uniforms and military gear from Texas landmarks. Infantry, artillery and cavalry demonstrations and military parades will fill the event schedule on Friday and Saturday. Re-enactors will also be on hand to discuss frontier life.

What: JMBLYA Festival Featuring Future
When: Friday, May 13th @ 3:00PM – 10:00PM
Where: Fair Park
     1300 Robert B. Cullum Blvd., Dallas, TX 75210
Why: The JMBLYA music festival is moving to Fair Park, and the lineup includes Future, Carnage, Rae Sremmurd, Kevin Gates, Kehlani, Keith Ape, Jazz Cartier, Noodles and Post Malone.

What: Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games
When: Friday, May 13th – Sunday, May 15th @ 5:00PM (Fri) and 9:00AM (Sat and Sun)
Where: Mavericks Stadium

Why: Break out the kilt for a weekend filled with Scottish music, bagpipe bands, Highland dance and traditional athletic competitions at this 30th annual event. Also on the bill: an all-Scottish-breed dog show, tents representing clans and families, a Scotch tasting, fireworks and Scottish foods and ales.

What: Taste of Addison
When: Friday, May 13th – Sunday, May 15th @ 6:00PM (Fri) and 12:00PM (Sat and Sun)
Where: Addison Circle Park

Why: This family-friendly food and music festival returns after taking a two-year break while the town tried out an upscale food fest called Fork and Cork. This reinvented Taste Addison will include pay-per-bite samples from 30 local restaurants including Blue Mesa, Flying Saucer, Mad Batter Baker and May Dragon (most will be in the $3 to $5 range), stages full of live music (the Band Perry is the fest’s headlining act and plays 9:30 p.m. Saturday), cooking demonstrations and a children’s activity area.

What: Hall & Oates in concert

Where: Gexa Energy Pavilion

Why: Hall & Oates’ openers for the outing aren’t too shabby themselves: With the brilliant performing dynamics of both Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings in play, the concert could almost be considered a mini-festival of American roots. Go early for the life-affirming blues and soul, stay late for the criminally catchy R&B-flavored pop.

What: Rihanna : Anti World Tour
When: Friday, May 13th @ 7:30PM
Where: American Airlines Center

Why: Rihanna’s Anti World Tour stops at American Airlines Center; with special guest rapper Travis Scott. UPDATED: Rihanna’s show scheduled at American Airlines Center on Sunday, March 6, has been rescheduled for Friday, May 13. All tickets for the previously scheduled performance will be honored on new date.

What: Dallas Comedy House presents Mortified
When: Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th @ 7:30PM -9:30PM

Why: Hailed a “cultural phenomenon” by Newsweek and celebrated by This American Life, Entertainment Weekly, Time and others, Mortified celebrates stories revealed through the strange and extraordinary things we created as kids.  Adults tell stories about their lives by sharing their most mortifying childhood artifacts – diaries, letters, lyrics, poems, home movies – in front of total strangers. Hear grown men and women confront their past with tales of their first kiss, first puff, worst prom, fights with mom, life at bible camp, best mall job, and reasons they deserved to marry Jon Bon Jovi.

Why: Millionaire Mommy Society has partnered up with Emmy-winning producer Kim Gagne to present The Mommy and Me Dream Bigger 5 City Tour. It’s a tour that spotlights entrepreneurs and kidpreneurs who are doing big things in their cites, bringing mothers and daughters together for a positive impactful inspirational event. The event consists of panelist discussions, questions and answer sessions, workshops, and vision board making, with over 300 attendees expected.

What: Denton Cinco de Mayo
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 10:00AM – 6:00PM
Where: Quakertown Park
     321 E. McKinney St., Denton, TX 76201
Why: Denton’s 29th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration commemorating the historic battle of Puebla will feature a parade and festivities at Quakertown Park. The celebration begins with a parade that steps off at 10 a.m. from the Texas Woman’s University parking lot on the corner of Locust and Oakland streets, then proceeds down Elm Street to Courthouse Square, around Quakertown Park, and ends at the Civic Center parking lot. During the day, a variety of entertainment ranging from bands to the Little Miss Cinco de Mayo pageant will take place on two stages in the park. A children’s arts and crafts area will give kids the chance to make and keep traditional Mexican crafts, and activities for kids include piñata games for kids ages 1-6. Vendors will offer a variety of foods, drinks, jewelry, crafts and other items.

What: 26th Annual Asian Festival
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 11:00AM – 6:00PM
Where: Fair Park

Why: Watch a wide variety of performers during this 26th annual celebration of Asian cultures, which has a new home at Dallas’ Fair Park. Hosted by the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce, the fest features entertainers, booths with Asian-themed gifts and crafts, children’s activities, authentic Asian cuisines and more.

What: HomeGrown Music and Arts Festival
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 12:00PM
Where: Main Street Garden
     1920 Main St., Dallas, TX 75201
Why: Dallas’ first all local music and arts outdoor festival, now expanded to include many great bands with ties to Texas, continues to prove itself an annual celebration of homegrown music, art, and fun. This year it will again feature 12 acts with ties to the state of Texas performing many genres and styles of music on two main stages. Performers will include Ghostland Observatory, Neon Indian, Wild Child, Bright Light Social Hour, Will Johnson, Pageantry, Kaela Sinclair, Bobby Sessions, Charley Crockett, Kirk Thurmond & The Millenials, Young Mammals, and The Misteries. The 7th Annual Homegrown Festival will fill vibrant downtown Dallas with music and art at Main Street Garden Park. The lush lawns, gardens, and fountains scream music festival, especially if you throw in live art demonstrations, a dog park, and local vendors selling art, wares, food, and beverages. Kids under the age of 10 are absolutely free.

What: Taste of Irving
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 12:00PM – 6:00PM
Where: Cimarron Park
     201 Red River Trail, Irving, TX 75063
Why: Around 20 area restaurants and food trucks will sell samples of their dishes for $5 or less at this family festival at Cimarron Park. Vendors include chain restaurants and ethnic spots featuring barbecue, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, Indian food, salads, desserts, snow cones and more. There will also be cooking demos by local chefs, a hot-wing-eating contest, live music from Hot Texas Swing Band and others, a Fun Zone for kids and shopping in the craft marketplace. Free admission.

What: Crawfish & Brews
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 12:00PM – 8:00PM
Where: Community Beer Co.

Why: For two years, Crawfish and Brews has brought what many residents would call, “Louisiana’s best pairing” to the breweries of Houston. After drawing in local crowds, Crawfish and Brews is taking its boiling talents back to Houston, as well as Austin and Dallas.

What: Tunes, Tails and Ales- Murphy’s Craft Beer Festival
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 1:00PM – 8:00PM
Where: Murphy Central Park
     550 N. Murphy Rd., Murphy, TX 75094
Why: City of Murphy hosts a craft beer festival, crawfish boil and concert with plenty of fun activities for the kids. Craft beer tickets will be sold online and at the gate. Live music starts at 1 p.m. with the headliner taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. Food options include the crawfish boil plus a variety of local food trucks. Kid can enjoy bounce house, crafts and entertainers. Access to the concert and kids activities are free. Crawfish will be available for purchase.

What: World Armwrestling League Southern Regional Championship
When: Saturday, May 14th @ 1:00PM
Where: Gilley’s Dallas/ South Side Event Center

Why: Hundreds of elite “pullers” are set to compete for the World Armwrestling League’s 2016 Southern Regional Championship. These men and women competitors are soldiers, firefighters, bankers, engineers, teachers and stay-at-home parents; and they’re all united in their love of pulling and their desire to be the best. They spent the year battling through WAL Qualifier tourneys across North America to earn an invite to Dallas. Pro arm-wrestling is an extremely intense and exciting live event. It’s also a welcoming environment for anyone down to hoist some day beers and spend an afternoon watching America’s next big thing. The WAL is taking the arm-wrestling subculture mainstream, so come see what we’re all about.

What: Que Rico! DFW Latin Cuisine Festival

Why: Sample foods from more than 20 Latin countries from international chefs and notable cooks in D-FW. The fest will put a spotlight on specialties from each country represented by more than 60 Latin dishes, and there’ll also be live music, dance shows & carnival for the kids.

What: Deep Ellum Art Bazaar

Why: At the Deep Ellum Arts Bazaar, you can buy various works of art from featured artists at discount prices. The event is hosted by Vertical Life Farms and The Noire Collective.

What: Beyonce Sing-Along

Why: We’ve done Michael Jackson tribute nights. We’ve celebrated Justin Timberlake. We brought in some pop princess love with our Britney Spears parties. But now, we’re celebrating the reigning queen: Beyoncé! Why? Because she is the most perfect person on the planet. This Sing-Along will be a collection of ALL the best, with hits from the latest album release all the way back to early Destiny’s Child. We’ll have rings you can put on it for Single Ladies, and more fun surprises throughout the event. Come ready to dance and sing the night away! “Bring the beat in!”.

What: Off-Centered Film Festival: Monty Python and the Holy Grail Quote Along

Why: Dallas is selected to close out Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s ninth Off-Centered Film Festival festival with a showing of Monty Python and the Holy Grail presented as a fully interactive Quote-Along where fans of Dogfish and Monty Python, alike, are able to follow along and recite their favorite quotes throughout the film. Additionally, fans are invited to the happy hour and book signing of Off-centered Leadership also taking place at the theater. Guests will have an unique opportunity to do a beer tasting with Dogfish Brewery’s Founder Sam Calagione who will be serving a collection of rare and vintage Dogfish Head beers.

What: 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson Championship

Why: The AT&T Byron Nelson is one of North Texas’ biggest sports attractions and most anticipated social events of the spring. Hosted by Salesmanship Club of Dallas, the tournament has been a premier PGA Tour event for over 45 years. The AT&T Byron Nelson has raised more than $143 million since its inception in 1968, making it the most financially successful charity event on the PGA Tour. All proceeds benefit Momentous Institute, the nonprofit operated by the Salesmanship Club for over 95 years. The organization serves 6,000 kids and family members directly each year through mental health and education programs.
