What: Draper James Pop-Up Shop

Draper James will have a pop-up shop within the prime location of Market, where Dallasites can stock up on their summer must-haves. The Draper James pop-up shop will feature ready to wear, accessories and home in a variety of seasonal prints, including iconic branded product.

Why: Spark your imagination and curiosity during the inaugural Big Night, a casual, adults-only evening under the stars with an urban hardwood forest as the backdrop that benefits education non-profit Big Thought. The event features live music by Paradise In the Sun, craft beer and wine, gourmet tapas, a S’mores bar, a student art exhibition, and a 90-minute bird show that includes audience interaction. What: Texas Ballet Theater presents First Looks

Why: Texas Ballet Theater presents First Looks, featuring Without Borders, a world premiere by Val Caniparoli, Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16, and Voluntaries by American choreographer Glen Tetley. Without Borders: American master Val Caniparoli combines a diverse vocabulary – from funk to Fred Astaire – in a stupendous world premiere choreographed exclusively for TBT.Minus 16: Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin’s inventive blend of classical ballet and his unique “Gaga” style breaks new ground with expansive movement that explodes from the stage.Voluntaries: American choreographer Glen Tetley’s stunning tribute to the mysteries of life elegantly contrasts soaring artistry with intimate moments of contemplation and resignation.

Why: The annual Lemonade Day is a day on which kids will have lemonade stands set up all over Dallas and the surrounding area to learn about being an entrepreneur. Some of the larger areas around Dallas that will have multiple stands set up are Highland Park Village and Preston Hollow Village.

What: Dallas Cinco de Mayo

Where: Oak Cliff Cultural Center

Why: Floats, live music, DJs, dance performances and a car show are among the sights to see at this parade and festival that takes place on Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff. The event benefits the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts’ programs.

What: 28th Annual  Multicultural Cinco de Mayo Festival
When: Saturday, May 7th @ 10:00AM -4:00PM
Where: Senter Park Recreation Center

Why: The City of Irving and DCET/Believe in Yourself, Inc., present the 28th annual celebration which includes fun events plus a health, education and job fair. Enjoy international food, fun and games for the whole family including clowns, mariachis, face painting, flower making and more. See the Little Miss Cinco de Mayo Pageant, take a Zumba class, shop the International Market, and dance to Havana NRG.

What: Swiss Ave Historic District Mother’s Day Home Tour

Why: The Swiss Avenue Historic District presents its 43rd Annual Mother’s Day Home Tour. Swiss Avenue stands as the finest example of an early 20th Century neighborhood in the entire Southwest. Its eclectic mix of homes represent virtually every popular residential design style of the day, including Mediterranean, Spanish, Spanish Revival, Georgian, Mission, Prairie, Craftsman, Neoclassical, Italian Renaissance, Tudor, and Colonial Revival. The Home Tour is your opportunity to step inside these treasured homes to discover the charm and detail that’s been lovingly preserved throughout the years. What: Cottonwood Art Festival
When: Saturday, May 7th & Sunday, May 8th @ 10:00AM – 7:00PM
Where: Cottonwood Park

Why: Browse among works by about 240 artists during the spring installment of this fest, which is held twice a year. You can also check out the ArtStop Children’s Area and plenty of local music. Parking and admission are free. Art works are available for purchase, as are food and beverages. What: Plano Asia Fest
When: Saturday, May 7th @ 10:30AM – 5:00PM
Where: Haggard Park

Why: Celebrating its 13th anniversary, this festival will showcase the cultures of Asia with numerous demonstrations, performances and vendors, including Asian languages, medicine, music, fashion, martial arts, food and more. Kids activities include painting, drawing, modeling and trying out musical instruments. Foods will be available from Thailand, China, India, Japan and America.

What: Garland 4th Annual Cinco de Mayo

Where: Historic Downtown Garland

Why: Garland’s Cinco de Mayo celebration includes a variety of vendors, free kids activities, food, performances by local schools and artists. Plus folklorico and mariachi performances. Starting at 5 p.m. there will be a variety of live bands performing. Free admission.
