We’re back for more mythbusting!

If you’re moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area from out of town, you’ve likely heard that we get some rough weather rolling through from time to time. Aside from the fact that you don’t want to be caught out in a hail storm, there is also the potential for costly damage when these storms hit.

For those that have lived here for a while, hail, like in many other parts of the country, is simply part of life. The more you get used to something, the easier it can be to downplay it. For homeowners, and specifically new homeowners here in DFW, the reality is that these storms are no joke. Here’s the myth:

The Myth: “Hail isn’t that big of a deal.”

The Reality:

Is hail a big deal? We say, “hail yes!” While you hear stories of hail as big as softballs, the reality is that any hail storm can be a potential threat to your home. Just because hail has not penetrated your roof does not mean that there can potentially be damage done. Smaller-sized hail can cause damage over time, wearing down the protective granule on your shingles, and once a leak occurs, the damage can become more severe quickly.

If you are concerned about potential damage after a storm, we recommend that you call a roofer you trust to come out and inspect your roof. Most roofers will conduct an inspection for free, and catching any damage before it becomes severe can save you a lot of money in the long run.

This is especially important if you are under contract on a home when a storm rolls through. If damage occurs and you do not have the roof re-inspected, you could potentially be denied insurance coverage, not to mention being stuck with the cost of any repairs.

If you need recommendations for a roofer, we are happy to provide some references that our clients have had great experiences with!
