What: Pokemon Go One-Year Anniversary Party

Why: The Videogame Museum is celebrating the 1st anniversary of the Pokemon Go craze on July 6. Pokemon lures will be dropped all day so visitors can play throughout the museum. Guests 18 and under can get a free Poke Ball while they last. Pikachu will make an appearance and those who post photos on social media while at the event can win museum and Pokemon swag every hour.

Why: This isn’t summer school; this is the Summer of Science where you can conduct elemental and spontaneous chemistry experiments. All you need to get in on the fun is the cost of general admission. Your exhibit hall ticket gives you free access to our special programming that evening.

What: 9th Annual Big Weekend of Improv

Why: Join The Alternative Comedy Theater (ACT) for the 9th Annual Big Weekend of Improv. 18 improv comedy troupes from across the country, in 8 different shows, for family friendly entertainment, Broadway musical style performances, internet themed spoofs, and more. The ACT wanted to find a way to give back to the community and partnered with The Birthday Party Project. Audience members who bring new unwrapped toys, party supplies, party favors, or cash donations will be entered into a raffle to win various prizes.

What: Black Police Association presents Tribute 7/7

Why: The city of Dallas will unite through Tribute 7/7, an event created to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the 2016 shootings that killed four Dallas Police Officers and one DART Officer, the resilience of the community, and to honor those who lost their lives.

What: Vinyl Thoughts 7: The Chosen Ones

Why: Vinyl Thoughts 7, the largest custom vinyl toy art show in the South, is back for one night only. Curators Shelby Miller & Cody Phillips will showcase this year’s theme of “The Chosen Ones,” featuring work by 17 artists on exhibit in Deep Ellum. The event will feature drinks, raffle prizes, silent auction, plus some of the most amazing three dimensional art to be seen. Seventeen of the brightest and best artists from across the nation have been challenged to each create seven different custom pieces on seven different vinyl forms.
Creatures for Kids will also offer a silent art auction of custom art pieces benefiting Children at Risk.org. Sponsors for this year’s show include Deep Eddy Vodka and Yelp, with more to be announced.

Why: Fort Worth soul singer Leon Bridges will celebrate his 28th birthday with a concert featuring DJ Sober and other special guests. A portion of proceeds will be donated to KEEN Group. What: The Dallas Five Memorial Concert & Crossfit Competition

Why: The Dallas Five Memorial Event will be a day of music and events in honor of the four Dallas Police officers and one Dart Police Officer killed by a sniper attack in the line of duty on July 7, 2016. The event will feature live music by Justin Myers and Scott Whitaker, CrossFit workouts, kid activities, silent auction, and more. The event will raise money for the Halo Fund, a tax-exempt fund that provides financial aid and support to the families of Dallas Police Officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

Why: Resurrected Designs will present The Urban Flea, a one day market that includes live music and collaboration with both the City of Garland and the official Urban Flea hosts, Intrinsic Smokehouse & Brewery. Urban Flea is held every second Saturday from May through December, excluding August.

What: WWE: Great Balls of Fire

Why: WWE Pay Per View returns to Dallas for the only time in 2017 with Great Balls of Fire. Brock Lesnar will return to defend the Universal Championship for the first time since WrestleMania 33.

What: Dub Splash 2017

Why: Check out 800 Volkswagens at this annual event, billed as Texas’ largest Volkswagen car show. Volkswagen enthusiasts can show off their own Dubs in the hopes of receiving one of the 30 custom-built trophies. Volkswagens will range from old “rust buckets” to show cars valued at up to $100,000. Classes include both original and custom cars (featuring hippie buses, work trucks and other categories), and there will be more than 30 kinds of air-cooled and water-cooled VWs featured. Check out the other activities available at Sandy Lake Amusement Park (including rides, golf, Shetland ponies and swimming).

Why: Sunday Funday is a laid-back, family-friendly event with tubes, tunes, water sports, food trucks, shaved ice and brews from Panther Island Brewing. Each Sunday features special events such as paddle board yoga, giant Jenga, slackline and cornhole. Outside food & drinks, coolers and motorized watercraft are not allowed.
