What: Beer vs. Wine Smackdown- Father’s Day Edition

Why: The Dallas Arts District is closing the streets for the annual Summer Block Party. Experience “Landscape Relativities: The Collaborative Works of Arnold Chang and Michael Cherney” at the Crow before it closes. The Lotus Shop will also be open until midnight for the Dallas Arts District Late Night Summer Sale.

What: Metallica- WorldWired Tour with Avenged Sevenfold

Why: Metallica comes back to Dallas-Fort Worth in support of their new album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct. The WorldWired 2017 tour will feature opening act Avenged Sevenfold.

What: Denton Juneteenth Celebration

Why: The City of Denton hosts the 47th annual Denton Juneteenth celebration, a commemoration of the end of slavery in America. The two-day celebration includes a Friday night gospel concert, a community parade on Saturday morning from the Civic Center to Fred Moore Park. Saturday activities also include a softball and 3v3 basketball tournament, games, contests, DJs, vendors and more.

Why: Two of the most successful and critically-acclaimed rock bands of all time, Chicago and The Doobie Brothers, come to Dallas to co-headline their North American summer tour.

What: Demetri Martin

Why: Demetri Martin rose to relative obscurity when he started doing stand-up comedy in New York City. Later he became a writer at Late Night with Conan O’Brien and then a regular performer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His first stand-up comedy special, Demetri Martin. Person is considered by many to be his longest and only hour-long stand-up comedy special. Martin has appeared in movies as an actor, most recently in Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion and most lengthily in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock. His first book, This Is a Book by Demetri Martin, is a New York Times Bestseller.

Why: The event kicks off with a 5k/1 mile Run & Walk at 8 a.m. A community parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. from the parking lot of the Super 1 Food Store, 6701 Forest Hill Drive, and ends at the TCC South Campus parking lot.  Festival fun starts at 11 a.m. with live entertainment; R&B, hip hop and jazz concerts; an “Empowering You” event; and Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant. There will also be a car show, kids zone, BBQ cook-off, carnival and midway, food vendors, rodeo, basketball, and youth art show.

What: Father’s Day Kite Flying
