What: Beer vs. Wine Smackdown- Father’s Day Edition

Why: What truly is cheese’s best partner? Taste five rounds, each consisting of one cheese, one wine and one beer. Charcuterie has been added to the tasting for Father’s Day. We will talk about pairing in general and specific impressions of each pair. There will be a vote and a winner.

What: Dallas Arts District presents Summer Block Party 2017

Why: The Dallas Arts District is closing the streets for the annual Summer Block Party. Experience “Landscape Relativities: The Collaborative Works of Arnold Chang and Michael Cherney” at the Crow before it closes. The Lotus Shop will also be open until midnight for the Dallas Arts District Late Night Summer Sale.

What: Metallica- WorldWired Tour with Avenged Sevenfold

Why: Metallica comes back to Dallas-Fort Worth in support of their new album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct. The WorldWired 2017 tour will feature opening act Avenged Sevenfold.

What: Denton Juneteenth Celebration

Why: The City of Denton hosts the 47th annual Denton Juneteenth celebration, a commemoration of the end of slavery in America. The two-day celebration includes a Friday night gospel concert, a community parade on Saturday morning from the Civic Center to Fred Moore Park. Saturday activities also include a softball and 3v3 basketball tournament, games, contests, DJs, vendors and more.

What: Chicago & the Doobie Brothers

Why: Two of the most successful and critically-acclaimed rock bands of all time, Chicago and The Doobie Brothers, come to Dallas to co-headline their North American summer tour.

What: Demetri Martin

Why: Demetri Martin rose to relative obscurity when he started doing stand-up comedy in New York City. Later he became a writer at Late Night with Conan O’Brien and then a regular performer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. His first stand-up comedy special, Demetri Martin. Person is considered by many to be his longest and only hour-long stand-up comedy special. Martin has appeared in movies as an actor, most recently in Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion and most lengthily in Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock. His first book, This Is a Book by Demetri Martin, is a New York Times Bestseller.

What: Juneteenth Fort Worth Parade and Festival

Why: The event kicks off with a 5k/1 mile Run & Walk at 8 a.m. A community parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. from the parking lot of the Super 1 Food Store, 6701 Forest Hill Drive, and ends at the TCC South Campus parking lot.  Festival fun starts at 11 a.m. with live entertainment; R&B, hip hop and jazz concerts; an “Empowering You” event; and Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant. There will also be a car show, kids zone, BBQ cook-off, carnival and midway, food vendors, rodeo, basketball, and youth art show.

What: Father’s Day Kite Flying
When: Sat. June 17th @ 10:30AM – 12:00PM
Where: Cimarron Park

Why: Children, be sure to bring your father out to celebrate him. This will be an excellent bonding opportunity at the Sam Houston Park section of Campion Trail (101 E. Interstate 635). Help your dad build and fly your kite. Please register in advance. Price: $5 per child, includes supplies.

Why: The Rodeo is marking its 29th year with hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls competing for significant cash prizes. Presented by the African American Museum, the rodeo will feature categories including steer wrestling, wild bull riding, barrel racing and a Pony Express relay race.

What: Father’s Day BBQ, Bourbon and Bluegrass Brunch

Why: Chef Dean Fearing and team will deliver an all-new Father’s Day dining experience this year, as the restaurant’s first Barbecue, Bourbon and Bluegrass Brunch will highlight four hours of merriment. The indoor-outdoor brunch celebration will feature not only a three-course feast of barbecue temptations from Pitmaster Jeffery Hobbs of the Slow Bone Barbecue, but also tableside Bourbon tastings, provided by Devils River Whiskey. Adding to the festivities, the veteran pickers of Over the River Bluegrass Band will perform old-time and newgrass tunes live, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Why: Celebrate Father’s Day by taking dad out for some family fun at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Dallas/Fort Worth, the ultimate indoor LEGO playground. Dads will be treated to free admission with the purchase of a full-price child ticket on Father’s Day. Dads and kids can join the Master Model Builder from noon to 4 p.m. to build their own LEGO race car, then race them down the test track for a chance to win prizes for the fastest and most creative.
