Why: For spring break, Fair Park is offering families a variety of free activities. Daily activities will feature lawn games, outdoor exercises, a scavenger hunt, children’s fitness workouts, yoga for all ages and arts and crafts. Some activities may have age and registration requirements. Participants can bring their lunch or n purchase a meal at Old Mill Inn located on the park. Activities will take place rain or shine.

Why: The Call of Duty World® League Presented by PlayStation®4 continues its action-packed 2017 season with top esports teams from around the globe heading to Dallas-Fort Worth to compete for their share of a $200,000 prize pool, and to take a step toward becoming the 2017 Call of Duty World League (CWL) Champions. Teams from North America, Europe, and for the first time in 2017, APAC, have the chance to face off during the CWL Dallas Open. In partnership with MLG, the CWL Dallas Open features 16 teams starting in pool play and 160 spots for teams to compete in the open bracket, one of the largest Call of Duty open brackets ever. The top four teams from the open winners’ bracket will join pool play on the second day of the tournament, while the final teams in the championship bracket will compete on the final day for the $200,000 prize pool and the title of the CWL Dallas Open Champion.

Why: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon weekend will also include the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K on Saturday, March 18, in Fair Park and a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find numerous vendors, showcasing the latest in running gear, sports apparel and health and nutritional information. The Expo takes place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Hall B on Friday, March 17 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public. Local bands will play through the streets of Dallas, along with spectators and cheerleading teams lining the route to motivate runners to the finish line. Upon finishing, participants are invited to relax and celebrate with family and friends at the finish line festival and post race concert. Texas based Bob Schneider will headline the post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series, performing for thousands of runners and spectators at the finish line festival in downtown Dallas. The concert is free and open to the public.

Why: Find luck on the rails during the Grapevine Vintage Railroad’s “Kiss Me I’m Irish Express.” On Friday, March 17, this unique St. Patrick’s Day event will feature festive fun, including green beer, for guests ages 21 and up to commemorate this most Irish of celebrations. Riders will enjoy Irish-style hors d’oeuvres and two craft brews per person. Each rider also receives a souvenir beer mug, all while enjoying the beautiful setting of the historic Grapevine Vintage Railroad’s 1920s-era coaches. Seating is first-come, first-served basis.

What: World’s Only St. Paddy’s Pickle Parade & Palooza

Why: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Mansfield’s off-the-wall Pickle Parade and Palooza. Runners and walkers can join the Pickle Run (10K, 5K & Kids K) starting at 8 a.m.  The Pickle Palooza gets underway at 10 a.m. with a kids’ playground, food court, community stage, marketplace and beer tent (opens at 11 a.m.). The fun continues all day with pickle contests and a pet parade (at noon). Legendary Texas Swing band Asleep at the Wheel headlines the live music line-up with a performance at 6 p.m.  At 1 p.m., the World’s Only Pickle Parade steps off with plenty of green pickles, a bevy of Pickle Queens, Elvises and more.
