What: Kiwanis Butterfly Festival

Why: Explore a 600 square foot landscaped mesh tent populated with hundreds of Texas butterflies at the 2016 Kiwanis Butterfly Festival, Sept. 9-11 beneath the pavilion in Southlake Town Square. Watermelon is provided to allow children of all ages the opportunity to feed and interact with the butterflies. At the conclusion of the event, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m., the butterflies will be released from the pavilion. This event will raise funds for local children’s charities, including the Children’s Miracle Network.

What: Oktoberfest  Craft Beer Festival/ Concerts by the Creek

Where: Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm

Why: Head to the Village Green at Watters Creek for the inaugural Oktoberfest, Craft Beer Festival sponsored by The Lion & Crown Pub. Area craft breweries and art vendors will be set up on Village Green Drive, which will be open to pedestrian traffic only during Oktoberfest. Participating breweries include: Deep Ellum, Lakewood, Tupps, Sam Adams, Franconia, and Community. The traditional Oktoberfest keg tapping will take place Friday evening. There will be live music all weekend at Watters Creek. Band on Friday night from 8 – 10 p.m. and a DJ during the day on Saturday playing polka music as well as pop music. Concerts by the Creek is Saturday night from 7 – 9 p.m. and features Andrea Dawson Band, the Sassy Soulstress of Blues & Jazz.  Several Watters Creek restaurants will be participating in Oktoberfest with food and drink specials including Bonnie Ruth’s, Savor Tasting Room & Social Club, and Cru.

Why: Monthly concert series features local bands from 6-9 p.m., followed by short films curated by the Lone Star Film Society. Plus the Green handicrafts market, and food and drink from Near Southside vendors. This is a great evening for groups of families and friends. Blankets, chairs and pets are welcome. What: Better Block Market – Oktoberfest Edition

Why: Celebrate Oktoberfest at the new Better Block headquarters in Oak Cliff. Enjoy German beer and sausages, polka music, local vendors and a fun run. What: Dallas Symphony Pop Series: An Evening with Megan Hilty

Why: The Pops series kicks off with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra debut of Broadway and television star Megan Hilty. Hilty will perform “Popular,” “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” and songs from her album, It Happens All the Time.

Why: Fashion X Dallas (Fashion “by” Dallas) returns for its third year and adds a new component, Style Setters. Four influencers in the local community – Linda Gray, LeeAnne Locken, Steve Kemble, and Heidi Dillon – have been selected not only for their iconic style, but also for their tireless work and dedication to nonprofit organizations. Fashion X Dallas will be donating a portion of all “Style Setter” tickets to each designated nonprofit.

Why: Attendees to the inaugural Warriors Games will be able to watch teams comprised of former players from Survivor (other reality TV shows) and young adults from Cheer 4 Your Life’s teen Warrior program compete in challenges similar to those seen on the TV show, Survivor. Get ready for twists and turns (and maybe a merger) as the games progress until the last player is left standing and is crowned the sole Survivor. That evening, the 2nd Annual “It’s A Jungle Out There” benefit will be held and will include a concert, dinner, silent and live auction. A private VIP Red Carpet cocktail party for upper level sponsors will kick off the evening at 6:30pm in the upper mezzanine of the Frontiers of Flight Museum with doors opening to the public at 7:30pm. Guests will begin the evening with dinner and live entertainment by teen talent, and reality star celeb appearances. End the night with Country star, Hudson Moore.

What: Dallas Chocolate Festival 2016

What: Arts & Autos Extravaganza

Why: Denton Main Street Association proudly presents the 17th annual Arts & Autos. Come on down to Downtown Denton around the square and beyond to check out hot rods, classic and custom cars, trucks and even motorcycles. There will be cash prizes for Best of Show winner in car, truck and motorcycle class. Festival-goers can enjoy an array of activities throughout the day including hands-on arts and crafts and games, Chalk Fest and live music. The Chalk Fest brings some fantastic chalk drawings to add spark and life to the sidewalks downtown. Artists of all ages can contribute to a fantastic display to stroll through during the event and for days after the fun. Live Music takes place all day entertaining crowds on the courthouse lawn as well as festival foods and the great dining at downtown eateries abound at Arts & Autos

What: Italian Car Fest

Why: ItalianCarFest is one of the finest all-Italian car shows in the Southwest and features 75 to 80 magnificent Italian machines. What: Deron Williams Celebrity Dodge Barrage

Why: A favorite childhood game, dodgeball gets wild, woolly, and goofy when the grownups take over. NBA All-Star, Olympic Gold Medalist, and Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams is inviting North Texans 18 and older to sign up and show off their mad dodge-baller skills, or come watch his Celebrity Dodge Barrage. Amateur and celebrity teams including Williams, his Dallas Maverick teammates, and other NBA players will compete in the round-robin-style dodgeball tournament, which is presented by Morgan Stanley. Players will compete for the Championship Trophy and other awards. MavsMan and Champ, the Mavs ManiAACs and the Dallas Mavericks Dancers will be on tap to cheer on the players. Teams must wear uniforms and are encouraged to get creative. Proceeds from the event benefit Williams’ Points of Hope Foundation, which supports autism awareness, education, and research.

What: World Arirang Korean Fall Festival

Why: The North Texas Pride Festival is family-oriented and includes many children’s activities during the afternoon hours (1-5pm). The festival will be held in historic downtown McKinney in the restaurant and parking lot of the Louisiana Street Grill. Admission is $10. Children ages 12 and younger will be admitted for free.
