Why: Explore a 600 square foot landscaped mesh tent populated with hundreds of Texas butterflies at the 2016 Kiwanis Butterfly Festival, Sept. 9-11 beneath the pavilion in Southlake Town Square. Watermelon is provided to allow children of all ages the opportunity to feed and interact with the butterflies. At the conclusion of the event, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m., the butterflies will be released from the pavilion. This event will raise funds for local children’s charities, including the Children’s Miracle Network.

Why: Head to the Village Green at Watters Creek for the inaugural Oktoberfest, Craft Beer Festival sponsored by The Lion & Crown Pub. Area craft breweries and art vendors will be set up on Village Green Drive, which will be open to pedestrian traffic only during Oktoberfest. Participating breweries include: Deep Ellum, Lakewood, Tupps, Sam Adams, Franconia, and Community. The traditional Oktoberfest keg tapping will take place Friday evening. There will be live music all weekend at Watters Creek. Band on Friday night from 8 – 10 p.m. and a DJ during the day on Saturday playing polka music as well as pop music. Concerts by the Creek is Saturday night from 7 – 9 p.m. and features Andrea Dawson Band, the Sassy Soulstress of Blues & Jazz. Several Watters Creek restaurants will be participating in Oktoberfest with food and drink specials including Bonnie Ruth’s, Savor Tasting Room & Social Club, and Cru.

That evening, the 2nd Annual “It’s A Jungle Out There” benefit will be held and will include a concert, dinner, silent and live auction. NBA All-Star, Olympic Gold Medalist, and Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams is inviting North Texans 18 and older to sign up and show off their mad dodge-baller skills, or come watch his Celebrity Dodge Barrage. Amateur and celebrity teams including Williams, his Dallas Maverick teammates, and other NBA players will compete in the round-robin-style dodgeball tournament, which is presented by Morgan Stanley. Players will compete for the Championship Trophy and other awards. MavsMan and Champ, the Mavs ManiAACs and the Dallas Mavericks Dancers will be on tap to cheer on the players. Teams must wear uniforms and are encouraged to get creative. Proceeds from the event benefit Williams’ Points of Hope Foundation, which supports autism awareness, education, and research.
