Why: Runners wearing flashing LED lights and their brightest fluorescent gear will light at the night in this 5K Glow Run. The run begins at 9 p.m. Register online ($30-$35) or day of the race ($40) from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. As a warm-up to the Hotter ‘N Firecrackers 5k Run, dachshunds will race to earn fantastic doggie prizes. The Dachshund Dash is fun to watch and the $10 entry fee benefits the Collin County Animal Shelter.

Why: The Exchange Club of Lake Highlands presents a patriotic parade and neighborhood carnival. The parade steps off at 9 am. at Church Road and Garden Oaks Drive (in front of North Highlands Baptist Church), proceeds west on Church past Lake Highlands High School, south on White Rock Trail to the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center. The post-parade carnival features many kid-friendly activities, booths compliments of the Exchange Club.

Why: Red, White and Boom kicks off Independence Day with a parade (at 10 a.m.) and classic car, truck and cycle show (1-5 p.m.) in Historic Downtown McKinney. The parade starts and ends at Henry & Tennessee St. There will be good viewing on either Tennessee or Kentucky St. Families can also explore the many dining and shopping options that downtown has to offer. Activities are free. The 2016 theme for the parade is “Going 4 Gold – USA all the way!” to celebrate our nation’s independence and salute our Olympic team as they prepare for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In the evening, Red, White & Boom action moves to McKinney Soccer Complex at Craig Ranch for food, music and a big fireworks display.

Why: Celebrate Independence Day in Fair Park, the national historic landmark located in the heart of Dallas. The midway will be open, and the Dallas Winds will perform a free concert. Stay till the end to sit in the famous Cotton Bowl – the seventh biggest stadium in the country – and watch free fireworks sponsored by Oncor. Admission to Fair Park Fourth is free. Fair Park museums will offer discounted admission during the festival. Fireworks display starts around 9:45 p.m. Seating will be available inside the Cotton Bowl but attendees can view the show from the Midway and various locations around the fairgrounds.

Why: Fort Worth’s Fourth is a free family event hosted on the banks of the Trinity River at Panther Island Pavilion. Admission and all family activities such as zip lines, bounce houses, water slides and more are free to the public. The celebration will take place all afternoon with family activities, live music, tubing and when the sun goes down attendees will be treated to the biggest fireworks show in North Texas. Back by popular demand, Aquafly fly board shows will feature riders performing tricks on what can only be described as water fueled jet-packs. These high-flying daredevils are guaranteed to make the audience’s hearts stop with stunts only seen in the movies. In addition, jet ski shows will be back this year. The shows will feature multiple backflips, barrel rolls, 360s, 540s, extended combinations of tricks strung together back to back, while taking hands and feet off of the ski.

Soccer fans can take in an FC Dallas match across the street at Toyota Stadium (requires ticket purchase). Featured performers include Eagles tribute band Into the West, Fancy Fingers Baton Twirlers and the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blue dance team. Other fun attractions include performances on the Community Stage, Hometown Heroes area with local First Responders, and the Patriotic Vendors Village. And foodies will enjoy the Taste of Frisco with a variety of great bites from Frisco restaurants. The party wraps up with a fireworks display at approximately 10 p.m.

Additionally, 92.1 Hank FM Party Patrol will be onsite with games, live music, and even more fun. The event will culminate with a patriotic fireworks display at 9:15 pm. Firewheel Town Center retailers will join the celebration by adding great summer sales and in-store events throughout the day.

This year’s activities include a euro bungee, a water slide, two mobile gaming units, a giant inflatable obstacle course, bounce houses, carnival games and prizes, as well as face painters, balloon artists, and arts & crafts by The Enchanted Artist. The finale of the evening is the fireworks display, sponsored by Bright Realty, beginning around 9:30 pm

Why: Enjoy Plano’s fireworks spectacular with free parking and prime viewing from the hill at Collin College and from First United Methodist Church. Spring Creek Parkway will be closed at Parker and Jupiter at 4 p.m. Come early and claim your spot.
